Dialogue/Monologue
Narrative is telling of the events in a particular order and recounted through a narrator or narrators. Within the narrative, an author often includes dialogue, exact words spoken by the characters. Dialogue usually is indicated by quotations marks surround the words spoken by the character and refined with dialogue tag (she said, he yelled, we whispered). Many picture book texts are composed of dialogue, without any additional narrative. It may be a dialogue between two (or more) characters or character having a monologue with the reader.
DIALOGUE: A conversation between two or more people as a feature of a book, play, or movie.
MONOLOGUE: A conversation a character has with himself or with the reader.
