Design is the arrangement of the elements of art in a composition. In design there are seven principles (also called principles of art or principles of design): balance, contrast, emphasis, harmony, movement, rhythm, and unity. Artists apply these principles in varying degrees to control and order the elements of art. The application can cause the principles to overlap, oppose, or take precedence over each other.
