Howard Pyle born in Wilmington, Delaware on March 5, 1853. Pyle died November 9, 1911. Influential leader of the Golden Age of Illustration, which was a period of unprecedented excellence in book and magazine illustration. Advances in technology permitted accurate and inexpensive reproduction of art. Under Pyle's tutelage, such talented artists such as N. C.
