Randolph Caldecott born in Chester, England on in March 22, 1846. Died in St. Augustine, Florida on February 12, 1886. Considered the "father" of the modern picture book, Caldecott was a gifted draftsman, as well as illustrator. Recognized as the first to realize the potential of the verbal and visual relationship in picture books.
